Oil change: interval, selection and most common mistakes. Schedule a service at SpotMeUp.
Paper will accept everything, and "long life 30,000" sounds great, but in practice a lot depends on your driving style. Short distances, city traffic, traffic jams and cold starts cause the oil to lose its properties faster - even if the car does not have high mileage.
The selection of oil is not about "what is on sale", but compliance with the manufacturer's specifications. Viscosity (e.g. 5W-30/5W-40) is one thing, standards and approvals are another. It is also worth remembering about the filter - saving on the filter can defeat the purpose of fresh oil.
In SpotMeUp, go to Automotive → Mechanics and service, select the "oil change" service and add: engine, mileage, whether you drive mainly in the city and when the last oil change was (if you know).
Frequently asked questions:
How often should you change the oil? Depends on usage - the city usually shortens the interval.
Does "long life" always make sense? Not always - especially on short routes.
Do I need to replace the oil filter? Yes, usually with every replacement.
Can the viscosity be changed? Only if it complies with the manufacturer's recommendations.
Are oil top-ups normal? Depends on the engine; large defects are worth checking.
Is driving once a week harmful to the oil? Short routes are more often a problem than a rarity.
Can I reschedule? Depends on the offer rules.
